vBoy Symbian 1.3 beta for S60 3rd version phones Release

Postby vSeries on Fri Sep 08, 2006 7:05 am

Updated information:
1. Rom directory changed:
(1) If you install vBoy on phone memory, you can put your roms into the directory "\Others\vBoy"(in fact, it is "\data\Others\vBoy",but only "data" directory is visible in phone memory if you use file manager of Nokia)
(2) If you install vBoy on memory card, you can put your roms into the directory "\data\Others\vBoy"

2. Subdirectory supported
You can make new subdirectories in the rom directory. It can be recognized when you play.

3. Some small bugs fixed.
*******************boundary********************************

Any feedback for this beta version will be appreciated.

Because of the limits for programs which are not certified in S60 3rd version phones, we have to change the method of filling the screen. The efficiency is much lower than before:( So you may feel the speed a little slow when you use a full-screen option, especially for those 352*416 resolution phones. Users of those phones can set size option "double". We are currently seeking a method to solve this problem.

The following function is not supported:
***Automatically recognize roms which are sent by bluetooth or infrared. You must put your roms into the directory "Others\vBoy" directly. You can do this by card-reader or USB.

The download link is
http://www.vampent.com/d.php?d=vboy_s60v3.sis

Note:

You may need to do the following steps in order to allow your phone to install vBoy:

1) Open Application Manager
2) Choose Options-> Settings
3) Switch Software installation to *All* (not Certified only)
This will allow you to install non-certified applications.

Please enjoy it!

Thanks for the release!
I'm planning to get a Nokia N73 soon. Would have bought an N80 before, but didn't want to loose all the fantastic applications I had on my 6670 because of the 3rd edition phones compatibility.
But now new applications are coming to these phones, so there's no reason why not to have one now.
Congratulations!

great news that another emulator has been updated for s60v3. tried on my n91 but due to the latest firmware refusing to load many 3rd party symbian programs properly it only loads to the file browser, but doesnt load games, just like vnes. It now joins the long list of great programs such as skyforce, best taskman and smartmovie that nokia have somehow blocked without realising on n91.

vBoy is my personal favorite  Works great on N80. All games I tried except Mickey's Speedway USA worked at full speed with full sound.

Keep it up vampent :P

That's weird. The Gamesmaster just got an N91 as well and he is able to run vNes properly. I will ask him on the matter.

problem with vBoy 1.3

Postby lukuan1990 on Sat Sep 09, 2006 1:50 pm

I could not save the games. Tried on pokemon silver and crystal. After saving the game, I tried reloading it, it will go back to the list where you select the games. Using N73.

Speed and sound are perfect! Havent tried saving just yet.

Ages and seasons didnt try but links awakening worked brilliant apart from the controlls.

N91 "joystick" is not very good for playing these types of games

You CAN go diagonal but it is very hard

Load/Save Whats going on?

Postby nwodedispu on Wed Sep 13, 2006 1:20 pm

Why doesnt anyone seem to respond to any questions asked about the loading or saving issue? I have found that when a GBC game is played using vboy 1.3 it creates a .sav file and the game cannot be played again until the .sav file is manually removed. Is there anyway to load the .sav file?. I think if someone has a solution to this question it would help a lot of people.
